“Address Your Nation", 2005

Mixed Media: Matches, Match Boxes, Wood, Mirror and People, 4' x 2’ x 2’ 1”

This sculpture touches upon issues of the leadership of our nation, The United States of America, and its current reputation in the world. Four years ago, our nation realized its vulnerability.  And Strike the world did upon us. Since, our current administration has been leading our nation into a more vulnerable position. We once had an ideal that those who stood behind podiums were our leaders. Leaders once meant people of intelligence, of respect.  They were people we could trust and who would guide us safety into our future. Today, those who stand behind our podiums as symbols of the USA are symbols of our current downfall and of the aggressive nature of our country’s decisions. I ask the viewers and participants of this people to take the time to reflect upon the faces that stand behind our national podiums today.  I ask them to self-reflect on our nation through themselves.  I layout a danger with the flammability of this piece that I feel exists in our current political status in the world.
