This social sculpture was a site specific project installed in the main student courtyard of the San Francisco Art Institute. This courtyard is a space where students and professors gather to dine, to talk, to smoke, to think. However, all these activities happened against the edges of the courtyard as a vast empty space sat between the activities of small groups of people. There sat the potential for a forum, for a gathering, to bring these thinking minds together to engage and exchange. This astroturf installation provided a comfortable weather proof space where casual intimacy could occur between both faculty and students alike. It served as a bonding agent for the school for three weeks during the spring of 2004. |
